Roswell (1994)


After suffering through the movie Rottweiler (which although it sport Paul Naschy, it does not even warrant a review), I wanted to watch something different from my usual stuff. That is when I decided to head for one of my favorite subjects, UFOs. Oh, and what did I find on Showtime? Roswell, a perfect movie about one of the greatest conspiracies in history and one of the biggest cover-ups the world has ever seen.


Plot/ Beginning at a 30-year reunion for members of a military nuclear bomb unit, flashbacks are presented that follow the attempts of Major Jesse Marcel to discover the truth about strange debris found on a local rancher's field in July of 1947. Told by his superiors that what he has found is nothing more than a downed weather balloon, Marcel maintains his military duty until the weight of the truth, however out of this world it may be, forces him to piece together what really occurred. Adapted from real-life events portrayed in the book The Truth about the UFO Crash at Roswell by Kevin Randle and Donald Schmitt.


There have been so many stories about Roswell and the mysterious debris that was discovered on the ranch. Being from SW Pennsylvania where we have our own UFO mystery in Kecksburg, it would be nice if someday the truth would come out. For me as a researcher in things of the unexplained nature, this movie is accurate with what eyewitnesses have been saying for years. With that in mind, believers in this phenomenon will love the movie. However, if you are an skeptic who really doesn't care about the subject at all, then you will find little, or no entertainment value here. As a docudrama, the film is slowly paced, but that is to portray the story in a specific manner. The acting, script and directing is top notch all the way around and it definitely keeps your attention. Overall, this movie is informative, and enjoyable, a perfect afternoon flick for the UFO and Conspiracy Buffs out there!

There are times when you watch a movie that is based on a true story, that you scratch your head and just say no way. Some of the depraved, disgusting and violent acts depicted in movies just cannot be true. One such film that left me feeling this way was The Afflicted from Midnight Releasing. Creep (2004)

Last night, I decided to get back into some horror movie enjoyment by hanging out on Netflix. After some time and debate, I decided on the British horror flick Creep from 2004. Plot/ Trapped in a London subway station, a woman is being pursued by a potential attacker as she heads into the unknown labyrinth of tunnels beneath the city's streets. When I saw this on Netflix, I could not put a finger on why I was not truly excited about watching this one. Now that I have seen Creep, I can understand my lack of excitement. This movie is not creepy at all; in fact other than the isolationism fear it creates, it lacks a gripping atmosphere. This linear, cliché driven storyline is decent and does feature a touch of violence. However, there is not much more to offer. The acting and script are only OK, and the ending does nothing. Really, there is nothing that makes this film stand-out in the crowded horror genre.

Super Shark (2011)

If you are avid reader of my blog, than you have read that, my daughter Jillian loves animal attack flicks, especially ones that have sharks in them. Fortunately for us, the SyFy Channel, The Asylum and other production companies have gone overboard recently with a plethora of shark attack flicks for us to choose from. Unfortunately, many of those feature hideous CGI and laughable to terrible storylines for our viewing pleasure. I guess it could be worse; she could be a Twilight fan. With another request for a shark movie pending, we decided to sit-down and watch 2011s, Super Shark. Plot/ An offshore drilling accident triggers the release of a giant prehistoric shark. When marine biologist Kat Carmichael arrives, she runs up against corporate front man Roger Wade, who plots with Stewart to disrupt her investigation. Yet another cheesy SyFy Channel low-budget shark attack flick is just what I needed, and to top it off, this one may be the worst of the bunch
